Ducks vs Them: 2025 season

The official pregame hype series from Oregon Athletics. One video per game, every opponent, every week of the 2025 season. Credit: GoDucks on YouTube.

The Case for 2026

Two straight CFP appearances. Big Ten champs in year one. 36-6 under Lanning. The pieces are here. The question is whether this is the year Oregon stops being 'almost' and starts being 'finally.'

48-8 Lanning's four-year record. .857 win percentage. Per Lookout Eugene-Springfield, this is his 5th spring. the most by a UO coach since Bellotti.
3,565 Dante Moore's 2025 passing yards (30 TDs, 10 INTs). He returned for 2026 instead of entering the NFL Draft. Per Lookout, he 'will be a preseason Heisman favorite.'
#3 class 2026 recruiting class ranked #3 nationally (247Sports/Rivals), #2 by ESPN. Third straight consensus top-five class. Five five-star signees per the 247Sports Composite.
+850 National championship odds per FanDuel as of March 2026. Fifth-best in the country behind Notre Dame, Texas, Ohio State, and Indiana.
97-43 Combined score of Oregon's last two CFP elimination losses (Rose Bowl 41-21 to Ohio State, Peach Bowl 56-22 to Indiana). The gap between 'very good' and 'champion' is defined by these two games.
#2, #2, #4 Oregon's final AP ranking in 2001, 2010, and 2025. Three times in 25 years the Ducks finished in the top 4. The gap between contender and champion keeps getting smaller. This roster might be the one that closes it.

2026 Strengths and Concerns

Real fans don't just hype. They know where the gaps are. Here is an honest look at what makes this team dangerous and what keeps us up at night.

STRENGTHS

Defensive Front
Multiple potential first-round picks returning
A'Mauri Washington, Bear Alexander, Teitum Tuioti, and Matayo Uiagalelei all returned despite having NFL Draft stock. Per SI: 'The Ducks defense looks to again be dominant' with all four coming back. Five-star EDGE Anthony Jones Jr. (2026 signee) could earn a rotational role immediately per 247Sports.
Quarterback
Moore: 3,565 yards, 30 TDs, 10 INTs in 2025
Per Lookout Eugene-Springfield, Moore 'will be a preseason Heisman favorite.' He chose to forgo the 2026 NFL Draft to return. Raiola (4,819 career yards, 31 TDs at Nebraska) provides experienced depth. Center Iapani Laloulu also returned, forgoing the draft.
Running Back Depth
Davison + Hill: 1,323 yards, 15 TDs as true freshmen
Per Lookout Eugene-Springfield: Jordon Davison and Dierre Hill Jr. combined for 1,323 yards and 15 TDs as true freshmen in 2025. Oregon also signed four-star RB Tradarian Ball (#9 RB nationally per 247Sports) and added Colorado transfer Simeon Price.
Recruiting Pipeline
Three straight consensus top-five classes
Per GoDucks.com: The 2026 class is 'the third straight that's considered in the top five nationally by all the major recruiting services.' Lanning quote: 'If you're good enough, you're old enough, and I think this year was a great indication of that.'

CONCERNS

Coordinator Turnover
Lost BOTH coordinators: Will Stein (OC, to Kentucky HC) and Tosh Lupoi (DC, to Cal HC). Promoted from within (Mehringer, Hampton) for continuity, but this is significant turnover in a championship-or-bust year. Per GoDucks.com, Lanning emphasized 'maintaining the momentum we have created.'
Running Back Depth Behind Starters
Per Lookout Eugene-Springfield: 'Oregon's backfield wasn't in a good place the last time we saw it'. fifth-stringer Jay Harris started the Peach Bowl. Noah Whittington graduated. Makhi Hughes, Jayden Limar, Jay Harris all transferred out. Only Davison, Hill, and reserve Da'Jaun Riggs return.
Closing in the Playoff
Rose Bowl: 41-21 Ohio State. Peach Bowl: 56-22 Indiana. Two straight CFP elimination games ended in blowout losses. Lanning after the Peach Bowl: 'The world is going to judge everybody in that room based on the result tonight. They are not failures.' The stat line says otherwise: Oregon has been outscored 97-43 in its last two CFP losses.
Big Ten Schedule
Per SI, the 2026 schedule includes road games at USC, Penn State, and Ohio State. Oregon opened at +850 to win the national title (5th best per FanDuel). Notre Dame (+650), Texas (+700), Ohio State (+700), and Indiana (+750) are all ahead of them.
